Assessment and Reporting Policy

The Department of Education Policy for Curriculum Assessment and Reporting articulates the expectations of schools to implement a balanced curriculum to meet the learning needs of all students, from Kindergarten to Year 6. Assessment

Accountability structures and processes at Ranford ensure staff are committed to monitoring and making judgments about student achievement and progress. Through consultation and collaboration, school-based assessment and reporting plans align with the requirements of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and have been developed to support high standards of teacher professionalism and student achievement. Informed by best practice and research, the suite of assessment and data collection tools at Ranford, enhance teacher judgement and decision making about student progress and achievement.

Underpinning all of this are SCSA’s Principles of Assessment:

Assessment Strategies and Practices

Teachers make accurate, on-balance judgements about student performance through a range of assessment strategies and practices. These include formative, summative and mandated assessments which can differ depending on the phase of learning and the individual needs of students. Throughout the assessment process, moderation of student learning is valued, ongoing and comprehensive.

Reporting

The requirements and guidelines for schools reporting on student achievement from PP to Year 6 are evident throughout all aspects of Ranford’s accountability and self-assessment processes. All teachers have a responsibility for reporting student progress and achievement to parents and carers.

Reporting

The purpose of reporting to parents is for all stakeholders to be well informed of their child’s progress and achievement.  It is a partnership between the school and home and information shared should be transparent and have no element of surprise.
