Visible Learning Pedagogy

The teaching pedagogy at Ranford Primary is underpinned by strong research-based evidence. Teaching and Learning practices are aligned with the work of Professor John Hattie, who has analysed international research and identified the practices which have the most positive impact on learning outcomes for students.

At Ranford Primary, the school wide pedagogy of Visible Learning values teachers as evaluators of their own teaching with a focus on what students are learning. Key questions driving our pedagogy are, ‘What is each student in my class learning day by day?’ and ‘How do they learn best?’ As teachers our goal should be a shared understanding with each student about what they are learning, how they will know when they have learnt it, and what their next learning steps will be. This is ultimately dependent upon the quality of our teaching and the rigour with which we make decisions about the strategies we implement. This will determine the degree to which each child progresses towards their learning goals.

A Pedagogy Leadership team ensures the implementation of the Visible Learning Plan. A comprehensive, ongoing professional learning program, mentoring and classroom observations build confidence and help embed a common school wide pedagogy.
